Ive been looking for a simple ultralight tarp that can take a bit of origami to make a half pyramid. The MLD Monk Tarp looked very nice but i didnt like the $90 + shipping and customs charges. I had some sil nylon in a nice subdued colour lying around so decided to have a crack at sewing one.

The Mountain Laurel Designs Monk Tarp is about as simple as a shelter can be. In silnylon you get a single 9*5ft flat piece of material or a smaller 4*9ft piece should you chose cuben fibre. Cuben fibre is only available in smaller width rolls hence the foot difference between the tarps.

That pairing is a good combination in my view Steve. Elaborating a bit on what @paul says about the full mid shape. Assuming we're talking about the silnylon version of the MLD Monk, if you want to pitch the tarp as shown above with the front centre/apex height at about 1m and the sides of the tarp square to the rear edge, then the front corners will each need to be about 30cm off the ground.

MLD Monk Flat Tarp, I've heard good things about MLD and they make a 5x9 tarp Rab Siltarp 1 obviously I have the 2, so I know the material and quality, it is very similar to the MLD but has no panel tie-outs which on a smaller tarp seems like it would be extra beneficial and why I'm leaning towards the MLD.
